Journeywoman Start Red Deer

Join us for an Open House at Red Deer College on Tuesday September 17, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm to learn more about the program, connect with alumni and tour workshops. Please note: registration is not required for this event but a presentation will happen at 6:30 pm and workshop tours will begin at 7:15 pm.

Journeywoman Start (JWS) Red Deer is a 12-week pre-apprenticeship program featuring classroom and hands-on skills development training that introduces five skilled trades that are recognized as apprenticeships in Alberta. This is a full time program, with classes running Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Journeywoman Start prepares women for a successful career path in the skilled trades and provides the jumpstart to an entry-level role in the construction and maintenance industry.

This is a competitive program with a maximum of 18 spaces available. Training for this program will be held at Red Deer College.

Tuition for this program is covered by the Government of Canada Women in Construction Fund.
 

The hands-on experience provides introductory training in drawing and blueprint reading, carpentry, welding, pipefitting, electrical, and plumbing. Learners will also receive eight safety certifications and basic first aid training.  

Application requirements:

  • English 20, Science 10 & Math 20
  • OR Pass mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) tests
  • OR AIT Entrance Exam B

Applicants are strongly encouraged to have Class 5 Driver’s License (GDL will be accepted).
