  • COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATE #5: WBF Safety Protocols & Policies

    To ensure the safety of our students, staff and community, we have carefully implemented a variety of safety protocols & policies.

    These protocols & policies include:

    • A mandatory Covid-19 safety orientation for staff & students
    • Limited access to our Edmonton training facility. The building is closed to visitors and only select staff and one class operating at a time
    • Daily self-assessments required for anyone attending the facility. If individual does not pass assessment, they are not granted access to the building
    • Mandatory masks 
    • Hand sanitizing stations placed throughout the facility 
    • Directional signage to maintain physical distancing
    • Rearranged desks and work stations to maintain physical distancing
    • Regular disinfecting of high touch surfaces
    Safety continues to be our number one priority during this time.

  • COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATE #3 - Programs & One-on-One Support

    Women Building Futures is committed to monitor the recommendations provided by the government to ensure we do what is best for the health of Albertans broadly with regards to the "unprecedented" threat of COVID-19 . We are also following similar requirements of post-secondary, as well as those of our stakeholder employers, as we not only educate but change lives through solid employment.

    Our current programs are being adjusted, where possible, to online delivery and we have postponed many of our upcoming classes until further notice.

    To date, we have had to postpone the following classes until further notice:

    Journeywoman Start (Edmonton) 

    Original Class Start: March 23, 2020

    Original Class Start: May 25, 2020

    Journeywoman Start (Grande Prairie)

    Original Class Start: April 6, 2020

    Original Class Start: May 19, 2020

    Journeywoman Start (Cold Lake)Original Class Start: June 29, 2020
    Driver & Operator Original Class Start: April 27, 2020

    We are continuing to work one-on-one with prospective students. Our Admissions and Community teams are available to share more info about our introductory trades training program, Journeywoman Start, and will be offering a variety of virtual supports over the coming weeks.

    Our teams will be working with women virtually to build readiness (academics, life skills, financial literacy, coaching, and career-pathing) and support application to our programs.

    Women Building Futures is committed to the safety of our students, staff, instructors and community. In response to Covid-19, we have made the following adjustments:

    • Students have been notified to stay home as programs move to online delivery 
    • All staff have been notified to work from home 
    • Current applicants for upcoming programs have been notified of postponed classes

    Our current programs are being adjusted, where possible, to online delivery and we have postponed many of our upcoming classes until further notice. The following classes are postponed until further notice:

    The Government of Alberta mandated the cancellation of all K-12 classes, post-secondary classes, and daycares due to the "unprecedented" threat of COVID-19.  We are committed to monitor the recommendations provided by the government to ensure we do what is best for the health of Albertans broadly.  We are also following similar requirements of post-secondary as well as those of our stakeholder employers as we not only educate but change lives through solid employment. 

    In the coming days and weeks, we will post updates on our website and via our social media channels as more information is available.  

    We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we work through the implications for current students, prospective students, staff, instructors, residents, and stakeholders within the Women Building Futures community.

    Women Building Futures is committed to the safety of our students, staff, instructors and community. In response to Covid-19, we have made the following adjustments until further notice:

    • All in-person information sessions and community engagements cancelled until further notice 

    • All graduation ceremonies for current programs adjusted to avoid group gathering 

    • All work-related travel is suspended until further notice 

    • All pre-readiness workshops (Tools for Success) postponed until online delivery mobilized 

    • All visitors to WBF offices are postponed until further notice 

    • Student policies adjusted to accommodate 14-day isolation period
