Heavy Equipment Technician
Our Heavy Equipment Technician program is your pathway to apprenticeship.
This program offers a unique opportunity for women who are interested in becoming a heavy equipment technician. Heavy equipment technicians maintain, repair and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial heavy equipment. Tuition for this program is paid for by industry.
Heavy Equipment Technician is a 4-week classroom and hands-on pre-apprenticeship training program, offered in two locations: Edmonton and Fort McMurray. The program is designed to prepare students to become an entry level Heavy Equipment Technician in the construction and maintenance industry. Upon completion of this program, students will complete a four-year apprenticeship program with WBF partner employers.
Students will learn general safety awareness and receive industry recognized certification for future employment, acquire WBF’s Best Practices for Working in Construction, and receive hands-on technical skills training in workshops.
Entrance Requirements: Apprenticeship Entrance Exam or Math 20-3, Science 10 & English 20-2, Class 5 License (non-GDL).
- OSSA Basic Safety Orientation
- Standard First Aid CPR A & AED
- Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
- Overhead Crane and Hoist
Please note: If you’re applying to the program in either Fort McMurray or Edmonton, you will be expected to fulfill the training and four years of apprenticeship in the location where you were accepted. You will not be able to request a location change during your training or apprenticeship term.
